Archival quality paper

Archival quality paper. Although there is no universal standard as to what makes a paper archival, there are some accepted properties. In addition to being acid free, the paper should contain no groundwood or unbleached pulp, meet strict limits on metallic content and be free from optical brighteners which artificially make the sheet whiter. Acid free paper has a life expectancy of over 1,000 years for the best paper and 500 years for average grades. Manufacturers of acid-free paper can indicate the compliance of their product with the test requirements of the ISO 9706 or ANSI Z39.48-1992 standards using a circled infinity symbol (Unicode codepoint 267E, ♾).
